Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>A former commander of KwaZulu-Natal’s political killings task team (PKTT) has told the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that he was given 24 hours to gather 118 dockets to be handed to SAPS headquarters.<\/p>\n

In March this year, Ntate Khumalo said that he received a rushed instruction from Crime Intelligence boss, Dumisani Khumalo, to hand over the dockets to his office the next day.<\/p>\n

He said his team scrambled to gather the dockets under the unreasonable deadline.<\/p>\n

Khumalo is the latest witness on the stand before the inquiry on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Former PKTT commander, Ntate Khumalo, said that the handover of 118 dockets to SAPS\u2019 headquarters in Pretoria was not properly done, as they were only given 24 hours to prep the dockets.<\/p>\n

He claimed this was an unreasonable request, as his team had very little time to compile the dockets for a proper handover.<\/p>\n

“It was messy because I think if we were given ample time, there would have been a smooth handing over, because handing over is a very crucial and coordinated process, if it\u2019s not properly coordinated, we will start pointing fingers at each other, which is not necessary.”<\/p>\n

Earlier, SAPS’ component head for serious and violent crime investigation, Mary Motsepe, said an audit and inspection of the dockets revealed serious shortcomings.<\/p>\n

“Twenty-three suspects were identified by witnesses but these suspects were not arrested.”<\/p>\n

Khumalo said that some of the discrepancies identified in the dockets were later corrected by the PKTT, but this was never communicated to head office.<\/p>\n
