{"id":93108,"date":"2025-11-18T19:03:06","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T19:03:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/ekurhuleni-mayor-orders-probe-into-empd-misconduct"},"modified":"2025-11-18T19:28:50","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T19:28:50","slug":"ekurhuleni-mayor-orders-probe-into-empd-misconduct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/ekurhuleni-mayor-orders-probe-into-empd-misconduct","title":{"rendered":"Ekurhuleni Mayor Orders Probe into EMPD Misconduct"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Ekurhuleni Mayor Doctor Xhakaza said he expects a preliminary report within 30 days on an investigation into alleged misconduct by some of the municipality\u2019s senior officials.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a media briefing in Germiston on Tuesday morning, Xhakaza announced that he has launched an investigation into all officials implicated in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi and former city manager Imogen Mashazi are among those accused of allowing criminal elements to infiltrate the department.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry focused heavily on corruption allegations within the EMPD.<\/p>\n<p>At the centre of the claims is Mkhwanazi, who is accused of signing a fraudulent agreement with Vusimuzi \u201cCat\u201d Matlala\u2019s private security company.<\/p>\n<p>It has also been alleged that Mashazi may have provided protection to Mkhwanaziduring prior investigations into his misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>Xhakaza said he will not overlook the serious allegations raised at the commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the serious and deeply concerning developments now emerging, both internally and through alleged irregularities presented at the Madlanga Commission, I have mandated the city manager to institute a broader, comprehensive internal investigation into alleged misconduct and administrative failures within the city\u2019s law enforcement structures.
