Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>Minister Senzo Mchunu\u2019s chief of staff, Cedric Nkabinde, has been taken to task for referring a complaint about National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola to the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).<\/p>\n

Evidence leader Advocate Norman Arendse said that Nkabinde\u2019s decision to refer the complaint against Masemola to IDAC was inappropriate because it led to the arrest of Crime Intelligence boss, Dumisani Khumalo.<\/p>\n

Nkabinde was facing questions around his sworn statement before Parliament\u2019s ad hoc committee investigating police corruption on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Cedric Nkabinde told the ad hoc committee that National Coloured Congress MP Fadiel Adams\u2019s complaint showed how he lost confidence in the national commissioner.<\/p>\n

He said that reporting Masemola for nepotism and fraud to IDAC was the only option.<\/p>\n

But Arendse put it to Nkabinde that his referral was inappropriate and got Khumalo arrested.<\/p>\n

“You will say, well, you referred it to IDAC, they had to do their job and had to do the investigation, and they were the ones who arrested him and had him charged. But it started with your referral, which I want to submit to you in conclusion, to be entirely inappropriate and that\u2019s putting it mildly.”<\/p>\n

Nkabinde said IDAC considered the complaint, but they were not expecting any feedback because it reports to the justice minister.<\/p>\n
