Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Pan South African Language Board and media research company Focal Points released the results of the annual survey on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The 2025 South African Word of the Year for social media was awarded to \u201cvalid\u201d, chosen from a shortlist that included hao khonahale, nonchalant, clock it, nodolozana, and ama1k.<\/p>\n

The Pan South African Language Board said that after carefully considering a range of words, terms, and expressions, \u201cG20\u201d was selected as the winner, prevailing over other notable contenders such as Government of National Unity, tariffs, femicide, and the Madlanga Commission.<\/p>\n

These terms capture the major events and issues that shaped South Africa in 2025, including politics, international affairs, and social challenges.<\/p>\n

South Africa wrapped up its year-long G20 presidency in November at what has been largely described as a successful leaders\u2019 summit.<\/p>\n

Deviating from common practice, the Johannesburg Leaders\u2019 Declaration was adopted on day one of the meeting, despite the nited States\u2019 boycott.<\/p>\n

Since then, South Africa\u2019s diplomatic ties with Washington have continued to strengthen.<\/p>\n

The South African Sign Language Sign of the Year is the sign for \u201cI love you\u201d, which was up against signs for \u201cso lekker\u201d, \u201cmagnificent\u201d, and \u201cconstitution\u201d.<\/p>\n
