{"id":95358,"date":"2026-02-05T11:13:56","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T11:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/madlanga-commission-welcomes-judgment-on-carrim"},"modified":"2026-02-05T11:31:39","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T11:31:39","slug":"madlanga-commission-welcomes-judgment-on-carrim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/madlanga-commission-welcomes-judgment-on-carrim","title":{"rendered":"Madlanga Commission Welcomes Judgment on Carrim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has welcomed the Johannesburg High Court judgment against North West businessman Suliman Carrim, which will see him appear before the commission on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Carrim lodged an urgent bid with the Johannesburg High Court to interdict the commission from subpoenaing him to appear before it.<\/p>\n<p>Evidence presented before the commission suggests that Carrim, a staunch African National Congress (ANC) backer, used his political pull to sway a R360 million South African Police Service (SAPS) contract in favour of alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi \u201cCat\u201d Matlala.<\/p>\n<p>In handing down her judgment on Thursday morning, Judge Denise Fisher ordered that Carrim\u2019s urgent interdict be struck off the roll, in that it related to \u201ca self-creation of the urgency\u201d rather than constituted a legitimate urgency as determined by the court.<\/p>\n<p>The commission intends to probe Carrim\u2019s relationships with the likes of Matlala, suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, and head of counterintelligence General Feroz Khan.<\/p>\n<p>Evidence previously presented before the commission suggests that Carrim used his political connections to assist in influencing Matlala\u2019s R360 million SAPS health services contract.<\/p>\n<p>Carrim\u2019s relationship with suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya and Brown Mogotsi will also be investigated by the commission.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">South-Africa<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; South-Africa.
