{"id":96060,"date":"2026-02-19T10:54:39","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T10:54:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/eff-seeks-siu-investigation-into-health-department-tenders"},"modified":"2026-02-19T11:10:21","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T11:10:21","slug":"eff-seeks-siu-investigation-into-health-department-tenders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/south-africa\/all-news\/eff-seeks-siu-investigation-into-health-department-tenders","title":{"rendered":"EFF Seeks SIU Investigation into Health Department Tenders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) wants the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to probe the Health Department\u2019s tenders for antiretroviral (ARV) drugs.<\/p>\n<p>The party said it does not trust the process followed in 2025 after two of the seven pharmaceutical companies awarded with contracts applied for business rescue in December &#8211; the same month in which they were expected to start supplying the drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi has welcomed the call by EFF member of Parliament (MP) Naledi Chirwa, saying while he does not get involved in procurement processes, he would like to prove he\u2019s not involved in any corrupt dealings.<\/p>\n<p>Motsoaledi said it\u2019s unfortunate the Digital Vibes scandal involving former Minister Zweli Mkhize has sullied the Health Department\u2019s tender processes.<\/p>\n<p>He has assured Parliament\u2019s portfolio committee that he\u2019s not been involved in any of the department\u2019s procurement processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can confirm there are no brown envelopes, as far as I\u2019m concerned. I can tell you with no equivocation that if that happens, it won\u2019t be pointing to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Chirwa said officials must be held accountable for not exercising due diligence over the ARV tender process by selecting companies that were on the brink of bankruptcy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has to be much more that the department is answerable to the committee in relation to how this process unfolded.
