Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>On 13 April 2026, Century City announced its new R750 million conference centre and hotel development, which will be built next to the Mall of Africa.<\/p>\n

This project, Waterfall City Conference Centre and Hotels, is the result of a strategic collaboration among Century City, Attacq Waterfall Investment Company, and Rabie Property Group.<\/p>\n

It represents one of the largest recent capital injections in Gauteng, serving as a robust endorsement of the Waterfall region\u2019s economic potential.<\/p>\n

The Waterfall City Conference Centre and Hotels will be operated by the same team that has successfully managed Century City Conference Centre and Hotels for the past 10 years.<\/p>\n

Together, this leadership group will now oversee operations in both Cape Town and Johannesburg, bringing a proven model to scale. Waterfall City Conference Centre and Hotel is set to be fully operational by January 2028.<\/p>\n

The hotel and conference centre development will overlook the Mall of Africa and offer over 800 dedicated parking bays.<\/p>\n

The new Conference Centre is designed to accommodate up to 1,350 delegates in one venue and 2,000 across 16 venues, including open-air venues for cocktail events and outdoor functions.<\/p>\n

The hotel will feature 180 bedrooms, which include superior rooms, executive rooms and suites. Of these rooms, approximately nine apartments will be designated for long-term guests.<\/p>\n

Here, guests can enjoy an all-day dining restaurant with views over Waterfall City and Johannesburg. It will also have a gym, spa, swimming pool, and private dining options for smaller, informal events.<\/p>\n

At a launch event for the development, the Century City team highlighted the importance of ensuring the development is sustainable.<\/p>\n

As such, there will be at least three days\u2019 worth of backup water, eight hours\u2019 worth of backup electricity, easy access to diesel, and solar power.<\/p>\n

The team also noted that another hotel development may be underway soon next to this one. However, they assured that it would not obstruct the views of the upcoming project.<\/p>\n

A landmark development<\/b><\/p>\n

The Waterfall City and Century City Conference Centre and Hotels CEO, Gary Koetser, explained that the development marks a major milestone for South Africa\u2019s business and tourism sectors.<\/p>\n

\u201cWaterfall City Conference Centre and Hotels are building the future of business events, telling the story of economic confidence and tech innovation through a premium offering,\u201d Koetser said.<\/p>\n

The Waterfall City location was specifically selected for the new project. This includes infrastructure and proximity to the highway, the Mall of Africa, and the airport.<\/p>\n

Waterfall City is also centrally located, as it lies between Pretoria and Johannesburg. Business hubs like Sandton and Rosebank are nearby, although Waterfall City is becoming a corporate hub in its own right, with PwC and Deloitte offices in the area.<\/p>\n

The fact that the conference centre development is privately funded also makes it a landmark development in South Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the private sector to invest in a conference centre is something quite unusual, and hence, there aren\u2019t many privately owned conference centres in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of them are government-owned, because conference centres aren\u2019t the most profitable assets to run.\u201d<\/p>\n

The benefit, however, is that they drive foot traffic to surrounding areas, including hotels and restaurants, Koetser said. This puts the new hotel development and the Mall of Africa in a prime position to benefit.<\/p>\n

This project as a whole is set to transform business tourism in South Africa. As a rather niche segment, South Africa doesn\u2019t currently have a very strong business tourism offering.<\/p>\n

The size and location of this conference centre are expected to change that, however. Following the development, the country will have the capacity to host much larger events than it can currently.<\/p>\n

International businesspeople will also be able to easily take advantage of favourable exchange rates by shopping and dining at the Mall of Africa or in the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n
