Africa-Press – South-Africa. <\/strong><\/span>The Western Cape government has raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of the SANDF deployment in the province.<\/p>\n

Despite the army’s deployment, along with SAPS and metro police under Operation Prosper, shootings have continued to flare up in the province.<\/p>\n

Western Cape police reports show about 15 suspects have been arrested since the operation started this month.<\/p>\n

Premier Alan Winde said that he grilled provincial police commissioner Thembisile Patekile at a safety council meeting this week.<\/p>\n

Winde raised concerns about poor intelligence and weak investigations saying that Cape Town’s communities remain under siege by gangs despite the rollout of Operation Prosper.<\/p>\n

“Too many of our communities are still under siege and deployments alone are inadequate. This force multiplier must be really planned well. It must be intelligence driven. It must be co-ordinated.”<\/p>\n

However, Winde’s words weren’t even cold when Western Cape police reported the operation’s biggest success yet.<\/p>\n

Police said that on Thursday morning three suspects were arrested after five firearms, extended magazines, ammunition and an M26 hand grenade were confiscated in Delft.<\/p>\n
