Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Chairman of Bor Community Youth Association (BCYA), Bior Kwer Bior, has said that death toll following an attack on a cattle camp by elements belonging to the rebel National Salvation Front (NAS) of General Thomas Cirilo Swaka has risen from five to twenty (twenty).
Late on Sunday, Dr. Bior said rebel forces of NAS attacked civilians and killed women and children. The NAS is yet to issue a statement regarding the accusations. In a statement this afternoon, Bior said the death toll has risen to 20, with 15 other people being treated for injuries.
“The number of Dinka Bor cattle-keeping IDPSs slain by the NAS outlaws has risen sharply to 20 and more than 15 were injured of varied severity,” Bior said in a statement seen by Sudans Post on Monday.
Bior disclosed that large number of women and children who were scattered into bushes are still missing. “While the number of people, mostly women and children, who have gone missing are yet to be confirmed as the situation is still murky,” Bior said.
Bior condemned the attack on civilians and called on the government in Juba to dispatch forces to protect IDPs in the area. “What is crystal clear is that the attack on IDPs was unwarranted; no intentional law sanctions this level of barbaric targeting of unarmed and unsuspecting civilians,” he said.
“It is totally uncalled for and the government of South Sudan is being urged to intervene, protect the IDPs and the host communities and uphold human rights laws as enshrined in the UN charter,” he added.
He stressed the need for the leaders of the NAS to prevail on their sponsored militia if they want to be taken seriously as a force which is fighting for change in the country.
“This xenophobic-in-inspired forceful eviction of citizens in their own country is inconsistent with the spirit in which this country was contested and liberated,” he said.
