‘I resigned several times and Kiir refused’, Kuol Mayang says

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Senior South Sudan presidential advisor and former minister of defense Kuol Manyang Juuk has said that he has tendered his resignation several times and President Salva Kiir Mayardit has turned his resignation down with argument that the insecurity in the country may affect his private life.

This comes after debate flared up on social media of disagreements over the way the government is governed between President Kiir and Manyang Juuk who also served at one point as the governor of the restive South Sudan state of Jonglei.

In a statement, Manyang said he first tendered his resignation to President Salva Kiir Mayardit in 2015 from the ministry of defense and has since made several attempts to resign from the government which ended in vain.

“It was year 2015 when I tendered in my resignation in writing to HE the President who rejected it. I again in more than once I expressed to him my desire to resign from the Government and go to farm,” he said.

“His response was that that insecurity prevailing in the Country will not make me succeed and can be a threat to my life and therefore would not let me go and that once situation improves he will let me go,” he added.

He said that the “reasons for leaving the Government was not political. It was my desire since before the CPA was signed. I had in many occasions expressed to both the late Comrade Dr. John Garang de Mabior and Comrade Salva Kiir Mayardit my desire not to work in the Government but to go to private sector and specifically Agriculture.”

He said his reasons for resignation “was for me to lead our people in general and Comrades in particular to farming for own self-reliance and contribute practically in Nation building because public sector would not employ all of us.”
