Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan’s minister of cabinet affairs Martin Elia Lomuro has claimed that South Sudan has no international friends claiming the international community is working for regime change in the world’s youngest country.
“Who says there are friends, perhaps in the region but in the international community, let me put it white and blank, we do are friends? Those that you see are working otherwise. They are for regime change,” Lomuro is quoted by Sudan Tribune as saying.
Lomuro who is under the United States and United Nations sanctions was speaking during an occasion marking three years since the signing of the revitalized peace agreement which was organized by the UN-owned Radio Miraya.
For his part, opposition nominated peace-building minister Stephen Par Kuol said the international community has refused to fund the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement because they believe the political leadership in South Sudan is corrupt.
“We have tried this (regime change) when we were in the opposition, but it did not work. So, I told these diplomats during our engagement with them to help fund the agreement so that the refugees and internally displaced persons can return to their homes,” he said.
“Instead of working for regime change, I ask them to support this current (transitional) government of the revitalized peace agreement, not the regime,” the senior opposition and government official said.
