Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Vice President for Economic Cluster, James Wani Igga, has asked three newly-sworn leaders to “stir the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party to its ultimate aim.”
Speaking at the SPLM House during the swearing in of Jacob Akech Deng Diit, Deputy Governor of Jonglei State, Ayong Awer, Deputy Governor of Upper Nile State, and Stetfino Wieu, the Chief Administrator of Ruweng, Igga said the appointments are empowerment to lead the people.
He told the leaders to make sure that they have the financial resources to manage and deliver services to the people. He reminded the newly elected officials to ensure that there is peace and stability in the region.
“You cannot secure the economic needs of the people without security, so that is very important, once you have done that you will fill the stomachs of the people, because they don’t want to stay in a place where there is no water, education and roads,” he emphasised
In his acceptance speech and on behalf of the other interim SPLM governors and deputies, Stefano Wieu reaffirmed his commitment to the principles of justice, equality, and prosperity.
“Our sole objective will be to ensure that we provide services to our people. Make our people happy, ensure that they realize our principles of equality, justice, and prosperity,” said Stefano.
He reiterated that the three new officials will stick to ensuring that the SPLM party is elevated and vibrant.
“Today we have taken oath affirming our commitment to the mission, values, and the integrity of the party. Our late founding father John Garang said, there is no meaning of revolution unless it makes our people happy,” he said.
Santino Malek Ani, Deputy Secretary for Political Affairs at the SPLM National secretariat, said the incoming governors have been advised to unite the people and prepare them for elections.
“They have advised them to unite the people of their respective areas and work for the election. They have to mobilize the people, they have to work to recruit and they have to maintain and implement the peace agreement in letter and spirit.”
President Salva Kiir, who is also the Chairman of the SPLM party, issued an order appointing state deputy governors and one chief administrative area as interim chairpersons of the SPLM party in their respective states.
Article 39 of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement constitution, as amended in 2016, specifies the duties and functions of interim chairpersons. The interim chairpersons will organise the parties’ structures in the states in coordination with the SPLM national security.
