Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan’s former deputy minister of transport and Member of Parliament Mayom Kuoc Malek died on Friday in Germany while on medication, several sources with direct knowledge told Sudans Post.

He was in his late 60s.

“He was taken to Germany for medication because he was sick and this morning we received the news of him passing on and this is a very big lost not only for the people of Twic County, but for the people of South Sudan,” one source said.

Mayom was a member of parliament when he passed away. He was representing Twic County of Warrap state in the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TGONU) formed last year as part of the revitalized peace agreement.

He was also the first South Sudanese deputy transport minister after the world’s youngest country gained its independence from Sudan in July 2011.
