Kiir names new Central Bank governor

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday evening named a new governor for the country’s central bank, 20 days after the head of state sacked Moses Makur Deng from the position along with the minister of finance and planning.

In a decree read out on the state-own South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Kiir appointed Johnny Ohisa who he tasked to serve on an interim basis as the central bank governor following the sacking of Makur as the new central bank chief.

Kiir cited the powers given to him by the transitional constitution as well as in the Revitalized Agreement for Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCISS) he signed with various opposition groups in September 2018.

Ohisa who graduated from the University of Sudan with a bachelor of banking holds a master’s degree in development finance from the United Kingdom’s University of Reading and has worked for several internal banks including International Commercial Bank where he served as managing director.

In a separate presidential decree, Kiir named Addis Ababa Othow as the first deputy governor of the central bank and appointed John Machiek as the second deputy bank governor.
