Africa-Press – South-Sudan. A pan-African charity organization has commended the peaceful coexistence between South Sudanese Christians and Muslims, compared to other countries in the continent.
According to the Program for Christians-Muslim Relations in Africa, South Sudanese Christians and Muslims have played a key role in peace-building in the country.
“There is actually peace and peaceful coexistence between the average South Sudanese Muslims and Christians,” said Joy Wandabwa, Team Leader at the regional office in Nairobi, Kenya.
“They can live in the same community, they intermarriage, they go to the same market shops, schools, and all that so there is coexistence and I think that that is a strong point in our continent today given the experience that PROCMURA has had across the continent because we are the pan-African organization.”
“Looking at what is happening for example in Nigeria and in Cameroon, you will find that the source of conflict is more of a religious conflict.”
The Program for Christian-Muslim Relations in Africa, also known as (PROCMURA), is a pan-African Christian organization that focuses on Christians’ constructive and peaceful relations with Muslims.
Founded in 1959, the organization is made up of Protestant, Anglican, Orthodox, Evangelical, and African Instituted Churches.
It has presence in 20 countries in Africa.
