Africa-Press – South-Sudan. A peace conference between Bor County of Jonglei State and Gumuruk of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area kicked off yesterday in Juba.

The conference aims at ending child abduction and cattle rustling to restore trade and peaceful coexistence between the two areas.

The Commissioner of Bor County, Yuot Alier, said the peace conference is expected to promote coexistence, which has been violated several times.

Alier has called for the implementation of previously signed agreements in order to bring much-needed peace to the people of Jonglei and greater Pibor.

“We have held numerous peace conferences and signed many agreements that were violated, but in this peace conference, we are not going to discuss much. I expect us to focus on the implementation so that the blocked roads are reopened and economic activities resume,” he stressed.

He urged the people of Pibor to refrain from violent activities such as child abduction, senseless killings, and cattle raids.

The commissioner said the communities in Pibor will have access to Bor for business as well as access to Juba for business if there is peace.

Two young men were killed by suspected criminals while travelling from Mareng to Anyidi Auctioning Center in November last year. As a result, some youth from Bor County organised themselves and went on a revenge killing spree, targeting seven innocent businessmen from Pibor who reside in Bor town.

Anyidi Auctioning Centre was a business hub established as a doorway between the people of Jonglei State and GPAA for selling and buying cattle.

However, after the conflict, the centre was closed and roads leading from Pibor to Bor were blocked for any travelers.
