Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Commissioner of Ezo County in Western Equatoria State says he has given land to more than 75,000 displaced persons who fled insecurity in the neighboring Tambura County.
The displaced civilians fled the conflict in Source Yubu, Akpa, Mabenge, Kpatanayo, and other locations in Tambura County in 2020.
The conflict survivors mostly women, children and the elderly, had their houses burned to ashes, properties looted and destroyed during the violent conflict.
Previously, most of them sought refuge in schools and churches in Wau, Tambura town, Nagero, Nzara, Ezo and Yambio.
But, according to Commissioner Abel Sudan, with the land offered to them, the conflict-affected persons have now established for themselves homes and are cultivating crops.
“The current situation of the IDPs now in my county is stable because they were given land to settle,” Sudan said on Eye Radio’s Dawn program on Thursday.
“The IDP’s from Tambura will not come there, because they have experienced the security situation and the protection and the safety, that is why I managed to host more than 75,000 IDP’s from Tambura.”
“So, in this case am assuring the entire Ezo County is peaceful.”
Ezo County is a home to 33,675 people, according to the 2008 population census.
The area, which border the Democratic Republic of Congo is known for its agricultural suitability of fertile land and abundant rainfall.
