Africa-Press – South-Sudan. A two-day seminar that was meant to bring together the top military command of Necessary Unified Forces in Juba, was abruptly called off Wednesday with the organiser giving little or no information about the cancellation.
The meeting which was organized by the Ministry of Peace Building in collaboration with the Joint Defense Board (JDB), was meant to discuss the role of security forces in the upcoming elections in 2024.
The last-minute changes threw the audience at the venue in a state of confusion but the precision nature in which it was done left a lot for imagination.
“The seminar is postponed due to some circumstances beyond our control. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you!” General Charles Machiek, JDB head of the Secretariat, told journalists before walking away.
Some of the top army generals left the venue in a huff, leaving behind bewildered members of the press who had already arrived to cover the event.
One of the items that was to be deliberated was to create awareness about the role of forces in maintaining peace and security in South Sudan during the election.
The aborted meeting was convened at a time when Juba is hosting a couple of high-profile events like the Sudan peace talks and the international women’s conference.
