Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The internally displaced persons sheltering in Enyief Boma, Torit County angrily decided to return home after spending over a month in the camp without food assistance.
The IDPs were displaced from Omuruo village following an inter-communal fight on December 18, 2022, that resulted in the burning of 53 houses and 373 goats by attackers from the neighbouring community.
Speaking to The City Review in an interview, Cicila Michael, one of the IDPs said, “I am really talking with anger now we are really suffering, children are here down with the issue of hunger and we really want to go back.”
“If they (armed youth) are going to finish us let them finish because the government is not caring about us,” she said refereeing to the armed youth.
Iker Nartsio, another IDP said the state government does not care as they have been surviving on their own in the displaced camp.
The area chief John Emilio said the situation of children and elderly persons is worsening as the little food is finished.
Emilio noted that some women with children have gone back home due to the unendurable situation in the displaced camp.
He appealed for urgent humanitarian assistance, “so the problem here now I am seeing the government cannot do anything, and if the situation continues like this then no future for the children again.”
Meanwhile, Jacob Atari Albano, the commissioner of Torit County said the situation has remained dire since the arrival of the IDPs.
He said no food has been provided by the humanitarian agencies working in the state
However, Atari said the national government was aware of the presence of the IDPs in the area and he calls on the humanitarian agencies working in the state to help rescue the situation.
