Finance ministry calls for reform in sector

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The First Undersecretary in the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Ocum Genes, called for radical reforms and transparency in the sector to ensure the country meets its goals.

He was speaking during the training workshop held in Juba for the internal auditors at the national and state governments yesterday.

According to Genes, the training aims to promote reform in the various ministries and other government institutions,

“Auditing is not bad; it helps the people follow the right procedures in the public institutes across the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Labour Dr. Julia Aker, called for financial reform to boost the economy of South Sudan.

She noted that the government has been facing challenges in mobilising resources to improve the lives of the people in South Sudan.

Dr. Julia made an appeal for the inclusion of women and persons with disabilities in decision making process, especially in public institutions.

“Women and persons with disabilities are not given employment opportunities, we (the government) have to empower women to manage the offices and encourage the rest to struggle,” she said.

“[There are] some of you (youth) who graduated yesterday with no experience, but claim the positions of directors yet you can’t manage. Get experience and claim the position,” she stated.

She warned the staff against transferring the resources of the nation to themselves but rather for use in nation development.

The official said there has been no development in South Sudan, especially in the finance systems, and “we look back to reset our journey through the agreement, to build the nation.”

The training, which was organized by the ministry of finance for the national and state auditors, is expected to last 21 days.
