Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Twic Mayardit community has renewed its commitment to implementing directives by President Salva Kiir and finding a lasting solution to the ongoing conflict between major communities in Warrap State.
Last March, during his visit to the Akon Payam, in Gogrial West, the president called on local communities to stop the perennial conflict between Twic and Ngok communities.
At the same time, Kiir also directed the warring communities to create a buffer zone, and access to transportation for people and goods between the two areas.
But a peace conference called to come up with modalities for implementing the presidentt’s directives ended up in chaos and ‘fist fights’ after representatives of the two communities failed to agree on how to establish the buffer zone.
The Twic community, for example, demanded that the buffer zone be established in Aneet and surrounding areas, and that army forces be deployed specifically in the border areas.
Twic Mayardit wanted a cessation of hostilities, and both the local authorities of Twic Mayardit and Ngok wanted to ensure full implementation by stopping attacks and cattle rustling”.
They also wanted Abyei administration units as well as Twic to evacuate buffer zone areas until a final solution is reached, in addition, UNISFA is to be relocated to North Kiir River”.
“The security organs from both sides to protect the movement of people and goods along the roads,” read a statement from the aborted peace conference.
The Twic Mayardit Crisis Management Committee was headed by its chairman and Member of the National Parliament, Majok Yak, and his deputy, Molana George Anyier and Ajuet Mon.
