Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Muslim community in South Sudan planning to attend the 1444 AH Hajj in Mecca will fly to Saudi Arabia directly.

This will be the first time that South Sudanese Muslims will be able to fly directly to Mecca, the Islamic Council has said.

Previously, South Sudanese used to apply through Sudan.

South Sudan Islamic Council secretary general Abdallah Baraj called on those interested in visiting Mecca to start early registration.

“Currently Saudi Arabia gives South Sudan 1360 sets for the Muslims who wish to go for Hajj in Mecca; if the number of South Sudanese is small, then we will allow the registration of foreign nationalities,” he said.

He said that registration will take place in the states and the three administrative areas before successful candidates converge on Juba ahead of the journey.

Registration is pegged at USD 5700 per person.

Every year, millions of Muslims around the world participate in this holy pilgrimage to the city of Makkah (Mecca) in Saudi Arabia for Hajj, one of the pillars of Islam. Muslims believe that visiting Mecca purifies one’s sins.

This year’s Hajj will start on the eighth day of Dhul-Hijjah and end on the 13th day of the same Islamic month.

According to the Abdallah Baraj Muslims

Many rituals are performed during Hajj, and these may be completed over the course of the 5 days.
