Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The team leader of Concerned Citizens of South Sudan, Akoch Akuei, called for the urgent evacuation of the people from Sudan.
Speaking at the event organised by the Concerned Citizens of South Sudan and the Eritrean Business Community on evacuation, Akoch revealed that they have moved more than 5,000 people from Sudan with the support of the First Lady.
“As the country is ready to develop, there is a need for us to join hands to help our people who are stuck in Renk,” Akoch said.
“We have seen the devastating situation of people in Renk, which is currently overpopulated. We have over 9,000 South Sudanese stuck in Renk; there is no food, water, or shelter, yet we are in the rainy season,” Akoch said.
Akoch said they have received SSP6 million from the Central Equatoria State government to support the evacuation of the people from Sudan.
In addition, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deng Dau Deng, appealed to the citizens to support the evacuation of the people from Sudan.
Deng said it has been 66 days since the conflict started in Sudan, and there are over 2 million South Sudanese still in Khartoum.
“The lives of the South Sudanese who are in Sudan are the responsibility of the government since the government is run by the small citizens, and you too can help the government,” Deng said.
“This contribution of SSP 100 million by the Eritrea business community will evacuate about 5000 people from Sudan to South Sudan with the trucks; there is a need for us to continue with the contribution to help people,” Deng said.
Deng said for the last month, several people have been registered, but due to financial challenges, they have not been able to transport them home. He hailed the Eritrean business community for their contribution.
