Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The SPLM Youth League in Northern Bahr el-Ghazal is planning to conduct mobilisation, recruitment, and training of members across the state with the aim of strengthening the support base.
The Secretary General of the SPLM-YL in Northern Bahr el-Ghazal State, Dhel Peter Mangok, promised to take the lead in the mobilisation against what he called “briefcase and unregistered political parties.”
“We are assuring the leadership of the SPLM in the State that the Youth League will always be in front to lead political fights and face any political challenges from those briefcase and unregistered political parties,” Mangok said.
“In addition, the SPLM Youth League in the State will continue to work for the interests of the people and will intensify the mobilisation and recruitment of the new members into the mighty SPLM party.”
The SPLM youth league pledged the party’s commitment to ensuring sustainable peace, stability, and prosperity in the country.
The party secretariat in Northern Bahr el-Ghazal State has already procured 12 cars and handed one to the SPLM-YL to aid their exercise.
However, last year, the SPLM-IO Chairperson of the SPLM-IO in NBGS, Dut Majongdit, accused the SPLM of intimidating the SPLM-IO members during the launch of their new office in Aweil.
“SPLM-IO members across the five counties were blocked from attending the official opening of the party’s office in Aweil,” Dut said.
He decried diminishing political space and a lack of cooperation from SPLM party members in the state as the main causes of the poor attendance.
But Mangok, who is the spokesperson of the governor of Northern Bahr el-Ghazal State, dismissed the allegations at the time, terming them “mere propaganda”.
“They (SPLM-IO) have done their launch successfully without interruption; it was just propaganda designed by some SPLM-IO members,” Dhel said.
In October 2022, the SPLM Liberation Council in Northern Bahr el-Ghazal State endorsed President Salva Kiir Mayardit as the flag-bearer in the 2024 General elections.
“The members of the State Liberation Council have enormously endorsed and nominated the incumbent SPLM Chairman, Cde. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, as the official Presidential Candidate in the 2024 general elections,” the council noted in a statement.
