Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Metropolitan Archbishop of Juba, His Grace Stephen Ameyu appealed to the government to invest in education adding such will inspire generations to come.

Speaking during the marking of the first anniversary of Sacred Heart Secondary School last weekend, the cleric noted that education contained the secret to getting the society’s full potential.

“Education is very important in transforming the country, and I appeal to our government to invest in our education,” Ameyu said.

He emphasised the need for every child to go to school and learn as a door to making peace-loving citizens.

Ameya who has been appointed this week by Pope Francis as the Cardinal of South Sudan urged the government to embark on building good schools, recruiting qualified teachers, and ensuring that every child has access to education.

“We would like to give our sons and daughters a complete education because this country will change through education because education gives awareness to all those who are involved in it,” he said.

“It will give the awareness of the responsibility that somebody is going to have toward the nation, toward the family, and society,” Ameyu added.

The archbishop further said that the church will continue to educate the generation to make them become good citizens who focus on peace and the development of their country.

He stated that with education, the generation will be strengthened with the capacity to manage and always do the right thing for the country.

Also, Ameyu appealed to the parents to take full responsibility for their children and give them home training, saying parents are the first teachers in the education system.

“I called parents to take care of their children and give home training to their children; these will help teachers do their role,” he said.

He urged parents to always attend meetings in schools as well as check on the books of their children to ensure that they are receiving the right training.
