Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Governor Alfred Futuyo has strongly denied any allegations linking him with a local militia believed to be operating in Western Equatoria State.

In a statement dated July 23, the office of the governor said that there is no illegal organization of youth formed to fight against other neigbouring tribes, as being peddled on social media.

“The allegations that the governor has formed his own militias against Avungara (clan) is misplaced,” a statement from the Office of the Governor in our possession reads in parts.

Futuyo said that the alleged ‘militia’ he is being linked with was actually a fact finding team sent to the state from Juba (national government) to investigate the root cause of the conflict that occurred in Bambouti, Pasi and Ango on the border of South Sudan and two neighbouring counties.

“The governor only received the fact finding committee upon their arrival and briefed them as the head of security in the state and allowed them to proceeds with their exercises as stipulated in the presidential order.

“The main mandates of the committee is to investigate the conflict which took place in Source Yubu then and escalated to Mboki, Pasi and Ango respectively,” added the statement signed by WES Governor’s Press Secretary, Alex Daniel Digi, as seen by City Review Digital.

According to Digi, the government of the Republic of South Sudan, Central Africa Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo has confirmed the originality of the fighters, and argue the politicians, youths, elders of those areas to distance themselves from inciting youth to fight on tribal lines.

Digi added that a detailed report by the (fact finding) committee will soon be released to the public.
