Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The former Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deng Dau Deng, thanked President Salva Kiir for giving him the opportunity to serve in the docket.

In a statement released on Saturday, days after his exit from office, Deng noted that President Kiir was always there to support him whenever he needed to handle the duties of the docket.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to you, Your Excellency, for your unwavering support and guidance throughout my tenure. I am honoured to have had the opportunity to work with such a dedicated and visionary leader. Your commitment to the nation’s well-being and prosperity is truly inspiring.” Deng said

The former minister also acknowledged the role played by the colleagues in R-TGoNU and the ministry for their cooperation during his term of office.

He equally praised the media institutions for “a tremendous job” during his term of office, arguing the press gave him platform for effective communication.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the media fraternity for their role in disseminating information and creating awareness,” he said.

“Your(media) objective reporting and responsible journalism have played a crucial role in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance” he added.

Deng said the media’s dedication to upholding the principles of freedom of the press is commendable and should not go unnoticed.

“I am grateful for your support in conveying our message to the public,” he said.

Deng, who was voted as a member of parliament representing Twic East County in the 2010 election, also heaped praises on his constituents for their support.

“Furthermore, I would like to sincerely thank my constituency for their trust and support during the general election in 2010 when I was elected as the first member of parliament for Twic East constituency,” he said.

He added that their faith in him has been a source of inspiration and he is grateful for the opportunity to represent them in parliament.

On Thursday, President Salva Kiir relieved Mr Deng and appointed Amb. James Morgan was the new minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation.

He encouraged the incoming minister and promised to support him where necessary.

“Your Excellency, it is with great pleasure that I congratulate my brother, Hon. Ambassador Dr. James Morgan Pitia, on his appointment as the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,” Deng said.

He acknowledged that Morgan would fulfil his duties adding that he is experienced and will manage the position.

“I am confident that his vast experience, diplomatic skills, and unwavering commitment to the nation will serve South Sudan well. I wish him all the best in his new role and assure him of my support and cooperation whenever needed “he said.

Deng, a member of the SPLM party, is also credited for the formation of the National Commission for War Disabled, Widows, and Orphan Commission which he led.
