Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The construction of a $3 million Kuajok airport terminal is expected to be concluded this month to improve the region’s transport sector.

The terminal is a replacement for the landing strip’s improvised terminal made of bamboo, wood, and iron sheets.

The State Minister of Information, William Mayom, said the construction of the new terminal would be completed this month. Mayom told the media during a tour of the facility last week that the funding approach for the project was refined to enable its completion.

“The source of the money is that the governor has engaged the national ministry of transport to pay half of the money in cash, and then the half will be paid by the state government and that money will gradually be deducted from the state ministry of transport in letters, but it is cooperation, an agreement is done and we have engaged the ministry of transport,” he said.

The terminal, which is made out of bamboo, wood, and iron sheets, came under social media criticism, prompting the government to act on the face-lift.

“The current government decided to change it from being a bamboo terminal to a permanent terminal,” he revealed.

Airports have long been acknowledged as important assets to the communities in which they are located, fostering a plethora of direct and indirect employment opportunities in addition to commerce, tourism, and enterprise.

Mayom said he believes that with the completion of the terminal, the economic situation in Warrap State will improve.

“We are optimistic as the government works with the governor of Warrap State that very soon the economy of our state will change because, when the airport has a good terminal and a good runway, everything can be okay like transport and taxes can also be a benefit to the government,” he said.

“The government is even planning to build a slaughterhouse because Warrap State is a leading state of livestock. So if we have a slaughterhouse here, the big plane will be landing here in Warrap, and then they will transport meat to Juba and from Juba to other countries and this can boost our economy,” he added.

The layout of Kuajok Airport includes several areas for arrivals, and departures for very important people and ordinary people.

Amoco Construction Company is the contractor building the airport terminal, which was initiated this year as a state project by the governor of Warrap State.
