Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The former Mayor of South Sudan’s capital Juba, Kalisto Ladu has been accused of performing badly in office. Central Equatoria State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agency, Moro Isaac Genesio claimed during the swear-in ceremony of the newly appointed mayor, Michael Lado Thomas Allah-Jabu that ex-Juba mayor Kalisto Lado had performed abysmally.
“City Council has been faced with a lot of challenges of administrations and I can a test to this as state minister of local government and law enforcement agency that the protocol of the administration of city council has been broken and until now I don’t know why it has gone to that extent,” Genesio said on Wednesday.
Genesio claimed that ex-Juba mayor Kalisto committed a lot of errors during the demolition exercise in Juba. “For the last couple of months, there has been a great deal of work done as far as demolitions are concerned but on the same note, there have been errors which all of us echo together and we as the state government has been trying to put an end cries that have been echo coming from the communities,” Genesio said.
He claimed that City Council has been battling with poor administration to the extent that President Salva Kiir had to call state governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony to intervene in serious matters of citizens’ outcry.
“This is something I would advise the incoming mayor would be able to put in place. The City council has a lot of cries and as state government, most of our works have already been centered on the city council. Whatever happens in city council is sensitive to the extent that even the president of this country would even call the governor and the governor calls the minister of local government to go and intervene on what happened,” he said.
He pointed out that heavy taxes and unnecessary fine on traders’ business has been a major challenge to the administration of the city council. “The aspect of high taxes and numerous taxes and the aspect of the implementation of law and order in city council been the source of the outcry by the citizens. We know we are in a healing economy. An economy that has been dragged to the ground by the activities of the conflict that happened in our country,” he said.
“Everything that happened at city council and as far as an implement of this order is a concern. The approach must be developed in a way that it does not front directly our civil population in the state,” he added.
