Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Tong Akeen Ngor, officiated the third opening session of the state legislative assembly in Aweil yesterday with a message for unity and food security.

Speaking during the opening session yesterday, Ngor urged the state members of the parliament to be more united and committed to transacting House business soberly for the interest of the state.

He explained the roles played by the developmental partners, especially the FAO and their continuous support in improving the Aweil Rice scheme.

He encouraged the community and state MPs to avail themselves of the land for farming, stressing that the state government is targeting 1,250,000 feddans to be cultivated to increase agricultural production and reduce hunger across the state.

He added that the state has planted an additional five million trees to ensure that the forests are protected from deforestation and that the environment is preserved.

Addressing the House, Speaker Achol William Amoi urged the state members of parliament to remain committed to the revitalised peace agreement to pursue peace and unity in the state. She appealed to the state ministers to come up with policies that would address the challenges and support the interests of Northern Bahr el Ghazal people.
