Africa-Press – South-Sudan. An estimated 4,000 firearms have been collected including an anti-aircraft weapon from the hands of unauthorized individuals following the recent house-to-house search in Juba and its surroundings.

The crackdown on illegal firearms started early this week.

In a post on a Facebook page, army spokesperson Major-General Lu Ruai said the weapons collected and displayed included 12.7mm, RPGs, PKMs, and assault rifles such as AKM-47, G3s, and pistols.

General Lul also said the disarmament forces managed to collect crude arms like machetes, pangas, bows, and arrows as well as illicit drugs such as Bangi, and Marijuana.

According to the spokesperson, the disarmament exercises will put the festive celebrations in the safest environment ever.

However, General Lul apologized to those who were natively affected by the exercise.

He said, “A special apology goes to members of the diplomatic corps, UN/NGOs, and other dignitaries for all forms of inconvenience caused.”
