Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Mayor of Bor Municipal Council, John Achiek, appealed to church leaders to pray for leaders to effectively handle challenges facing the state and the country at large.

According to the statement seen by The City Review, Achiek said leaders face several challenges, all of which need God’s strength.

He called on pastors, priests and bishops to use this Christmas to pray for the Jonglei State government to tackle the challenges ahead of them.

“I ask our religious leaders to pray for us (leaders) to overcome uncountable challenges,” he said.

He added that the country continues to face challenges ranging from economic hardships, climate change impacts (floods), and social, religious, and political situations.

He called on Jonglei residents to embrace peace while celebrating Christmas and the New Year.

He called on the youth to shun alcohol during the celebration and instead join their families on celebration.

He appreciated the South Sudanese in the Diaspora for their constant help at home during the days of hardship, particularly during the time of the flood.

“I also thank Jonglei State citizens in the Diaspora, who, in a most difficult year for our economy, have provided support for families here at home at different levels,” he said.

He added that such an act exemplified the oneness of the family across the globe.

“As we celebrate the Christmas holiday, let us do so with kindness and humanity, showing love and care for one another, in the spirit of Jesus Christ,” he said.

He appreciated the national government and state government for their constant patrol in the state, which has created peace and security stability.
