Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Police in Nimule are investigating an exchange of gunfire Thursday between security forces and suspected armed smugglers at the customs parking yard, the Inspector of Police there has said.
Major David Kasmiro told Eye Radio that Security forces in Nimule opened fire on suspected armed smugglers who attempted to steal vehicles. He says an unspecified number of armed criminals attempted to steal vehicles when they clashed with the police who were on duty.
According to Kasmiro, there were no casualties from the exchange of gunfire. However, the armed criminals set fire to four tyres of a fuel truck. Kasmiro says that the organized forces are investigating the incident.
“There were an unknown number of armed criminals who came to smuggle cars at the Customs parking yard of Nimule,” Kasimro told Eye Radio from Nimule town.
“They came around 2 AM, in an attempt to burn some cars with dried grass, but good enough, our soldiers on duty realized that, and opened fire at them and ran away,” he said.
“They set fire to tires of trucks in the parking yard, but there was not much damage, and our soldiers are now investigating and pursuing them where they run to.
“The security situation is calm and nothing bad and we consider them as criminals, who want to create confusion in the town.”
