Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Around 40 suspected land grabbers who were arrested in Molobur village, Lado Payam, last week will soon be taken to court for trial, Juba County said.
Addressing the media on Monday, the Commissioner of Juba County, Charles Joseph Wani, said the suspects will appear before the court and his administration will not rest until justice is served.
“I came here to do a follow-up on the suspected land grabbers who were arrested last week. I cannot always arrest people, and after a few minutes, they are released. I will continue to follow up on the case until the land grabbers are taken to prison,” he said.
“I’m still going to make sure that every day we will be monitoring Lado Payam and will continue to arrest the land grabbers until Lado Payam is free from land grabbing in the county,” he added.
Last week, Wani said more than 40 people were arrested during an operation, and that the suspects were liable in various capacities.
“We are now in the implementation of that order… We have arrested more than 40 land grabbers in Lado Payam,” the commissioner said.
He said the suspects would be charged and, if found guilty, would be slapped with jail sentences under the law.
The arrest of the suspects came just a day after a fight broke out between the communities and the land grabbers in Molobur village on Wednesday night, where two houses were burned to ashes.
There have been increasing cases of land grabbing in Central Equatoria State, particularly in Bilinyang Boma in Mangalla Payam and Luri Boma Kworijik village in Lado Payam of Juba County.
Last month, the Governor of Central Equatoria State, Emmanuel Adil, issued a gubernatorial order banning the illegal demarcation, surveys, and the allotment of lands within Juba.
The order was copied to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, who also serves as the Commissioner of Police in CES, minister of housing, lands, and public utilities, commissioner of Juba County, mayor of Juba City Council, security agencies, and the legal administration to swiftly implement the gubernatorial order from the effect of the announcement.
