Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The US Embassy in Kenya has advised its citizens to be aware of increasing rate of crimes in the streets of Nairobi and conceal expensive jewelries and valuable belongings.

The embassy issued a security alert on Friday, urging American citizens to keep low profile and avoid displaying wealth and valuables.

“There are reports of increased criminal activities in residential areas of Nairobi. Incidents include crimes of opportunity such as purse and phone snatching,” the alert said.

The embassy added that the Kenyan government is taking measures to place more police in high crime areas.

“Do not display signs of wealth, such as wearing expensive jewelry or watches, or flashing large sums of money; keep valuables, such as phones, concealed,” it further cautioned.

The security alert also urged US citizens to always remain calms and avoid resisting the criminals when in such situations.

“Do not physically resist any robbery attempt and remain calm. Confrontation with these individuals often leads to violence. In traffic, keep your doors locked and windows up.”
