Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan National Basketball team is expected to travel to France ahead of the summer Olympic competition in Paris on July 17, 2024.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Director General for Sports in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Edward Settimo, said that after meeting the French ambassador to South Sudan, they were promised that Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, will be the centre for the issuance of Schengen visas for travel to Paris.
“The French Ambassador to South Sudan informed us that Addis Ababa will be the centre for South Sudan’s travel to Paris, and that visas will be provided there because they cannot be handled in Juba. And the visa that will be provided is the European Schengen visa,” Settimo said.
He said South Sudanese who wish to travel to Paris will be assisted with visa procedures but must pay their own visa fees, emphasising that the government will only handle visas for government officials.
“The fans’ visa is subject to procedures since they must apply. Fans will obtain their own visas and pay visa fees, but the government delegation will be supported by the South Sudanese government. The government will not issue anyone a visa,” he stated.
