The Secretary for Policy and Planning of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) National Youth League, Akech Akoon left the party citing a “loss of vision.”

Mr Akoon penned a joint resignation letter with Kharbino Kiir, where they faulted the leadership of the SPLM-IO for “losing focus of its vision.”

“This letter serves to inform the leadership of SPLM-IO that, I, Akech Akoon Yak and Kharbino Kiir Ajang officially resigned amicably from the effect of today,” he noted.

He further accused Deng Akoon, the current speaker of the council of the states, and Garang Akeen of spoiling the party.

Kharbino told The City Review that they are warming up to join the SPLM political party after resigning.

“We were trying to come together and coordinate if there were any events organised by the SPLM party, we would come and announce our allegiance to the SPLM. But now we have left as two in numbers because others are not around here in Juba,” Kharbino said.

Meanwhile, James Mador, a Member of the SPLM–IO National Youth League, dismissed the claims stressing that there is no disunity within the party.

He further explained that the SPLM-IO party did not get popularity by chance in some states but it was through unity and comradeships.

“There is nothing like grouping in the SPLM-IO within Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, we have only one leadership under the focal point headed by Deng Deng Akoon, the speaker in the council of states and deputy minister of Cabinet affairs, Garang Tong Akeen, and our state chairperson of SPLM-IO Aweng Ibrahim Akoon,” Mador claimed.
