The Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, Taban Deng Gai, urged the newly appointed governor of Unity State, Riek Biem, to mull youth employment in the state.
Deng, who spoke during the inauguration ceremony of Governor Biem at the Kulang Foundation playground in Juba yesterday, said that Unity State has a large number of graduates, the majority of whom are sitting at home because there are no jobs.
He urged Biem to transform Unity State to ensure job creation so that the jobless youth can be absorbed.
“In Bentiu we now have graduates with Bachelor degrees, Diplomas, and Masters. As a newly appointed governor, you need to consider creating job opportunities for the young graduates in the state,” Deng said.
According to Deng, one of South Sudan’s top concerns as it works to rebuild its political structure is providing employment opportunities for the youth.
“The only thing we are fighting for is national employment for youth. There are more graduates in South Sudan and they have documents in their houses but the nation is in the process of generating work prospects,” he said.
He challenged all the educated sons and daughters of Unity State to use their education to change their communities as they wait for employment.
