Africa-Press – South-Sudan. President Salva Kiir will today receive an explanatory document from the high-level committee on the implementation of the agreement.
This is after the committee finished reviewing the peace agreement, including the implemented tasks and pending tasks of the deals.
Addressing the media after the meeting on Tuesday, the chairperson of the high-level committee on the implementation of the agreement and road map, Tut Gatluak, said he had deliberated on the document, which would be submitted to the president, the party leaders, and vice presidents.
“Today (Tuesday), we have signed everything that has been implemented and that which has not been implemented, and we will submit it to the President of the Republic, the parties to the agreement, and the Vice Presidents. It will be discussed at the presidential level, and regarding the December elections, it is something related to a decision from the President of the Republic and the Election Commission,” Gatluak said.
In addition, the minister of petroleum, Puot Kang Chol, said the committee has finished reviewing the peace agreement, including the implemented tasks and pending tasks ahead of the election.
“We have finished the review of the agreement today, the roadmap status, where we have categorized it into three parts: the completed part, where we completed the implementation of that article; ongoing things that we have started but not completed; and the pending tasks. These are things that are not touched at all,” he said.
“We have put those categories in place, and the document is now ready to be tabled before the principals (party leaders) for them to give us direction and the final way forward.”
According to Puot, the explanatory note will cover what has been completed in the implementation of the peace agreement, what is in progress, and what is pending.
“Yesterday, we informed you that we would finish today, and indeed, we have finished our work today, and it will now be up to the leadership to call for the meeting. But the document today will be distributed to the principals for them to look at it, and His Excellency the President will now be in a position to call for a meeting so that they can make the final decision, when they make the final decision, it will be announced to you,” Puot said.
