Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Local authorities in South Sudan’s Jonglei State announced on Tuesday that they will intensify efforts to tackle the ongoing drainage issues affecting Bor town.
Speaking to Sudans Post in an interview on Tuesday, Jacob Achiek Machar, a mayor of the Bor municipal council, stated that plans are underway to renovate crucial dykes and reopen vital water channels in Bor town to alleviate flooding.
This initiative, which residents have been eagerly anticipating, seeks to strengthen flood defenses and enhance the drainage system.
Recently, heavy rainfall has resulted in widespread flooding across many areas of the town.
“The municipal council, Africa Resource Development ARC, and the International Organization for Migration will start the opening of the blocked water channel across the town and the renovation of the dykes in the area,” said Achiek.
Achiek stated that the Bor municipal council, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration, is preparing to begin the reopening of water channels throughout the town.
Residents of Bor are optimistic that these renewed efforts will provide enduring relief from the severe flooding that has affected their lives for many years.
The success of this project will depend on sustained commitment from all stakeholders, including the local government, humanitarian organizations, and the active participation of the community.
