Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Coordination Authority (NCTTCA) on Thursday donated 40 computers to the South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) to boost its digital transformation.
The donation, which includes 28 desktop computers and 12 laptops, aimed to enhance the work of the Revenue Authority.
In his key remarks during the handover ceremony in Juba on Thursday, Eng. Dr. John Deng Diar, the Executive Secretary of the Northern Corridor, stated that the donation aligns with regional initiatives aimed at standardizing and automating customs processes.
“The commissioner general requested these 28 desktops to be distributed across all customs stations to support data automation and standardization under the regional framework of customs procedures,” Deng told media on Thursday.
Dr. Deng emphasized the Northern Corridor’s dedication to partnering with the National Revenue Authority, with a particular focus on enhancing internal networking systems.
He emphasized the importance of integrating South Sudan into the Single Customs Territory framework to enhance the efficiency of customs management and revenue administration.
“This partnership marks a significant milestone in SSRA’s commitment to strengthening institutional efficiency, improving service delivery, and aligning with modern regional standards.”
For his part, Mr. Simon Akuei Deng, Commissioner of the South Sudan Revenue Authority, stated that the computers will be used to enhance revenue mobilization and administrative tasks.
“We are very grateful as the Revenue Authority today to have received 40 computers from the Northern Corridor. We will continue to work together to achieve more,” Deng said.
Deng mentioned that the Customs Division is in the process of digitizing its 28 workstations to enhance revenue collection.
“These 40 computers will enhance our customs operations and data management. Now that we’re in the automation phase, such tools are critical. Our next focus will be securing printers and strengthening internal connectivity,” he said.
The Northern Corridor is a multimodal route linking to the maritime port of Mombasa.
It serves East African Community (EAC) states of South Sudan, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, DR Congo, and Rwanda under the Northern Corridor Transit and Transport Agreement in a bid to promote regional cooperation by facilitating interstate and transit trade.
