Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Governor Simon Ober Mawut has rallied the youth to prepare for a new chapter in national defence, calling on them to embrace electronic warfare training as South Sudan seeks to modernise its military capabilities.
Speaking during a public address in Udhum Payam, Aweil West County, Mawut said traditional infantry methods are no longer sufficient, and the future lies in advanced military technologies.
“I want to tell you the youth to join the call. You will be trained on how to fight high-tech warfare,” he declared. “You won’t be going in for infantry anymore; instead, you’ll be launching big weapons electronically. That’s what military experts call electronic warfare.”
Mawut’s statement came in response to earlier remarks by Division 3 Commander General Malong Agat, who had hinted at the need to involve youth in modern military training programs. The governor’s endorsement signals growing alignment between political leadership and the armed forces on reshaping the country’s defence doctrine.
Beyond security matters, Governor Mawut also addressed a range of social and infrastructural issues. He pledged support for widows of fallen liberation fighters, especially those previously listed on the government payroll.
“For you, the widows, I have instructed my minister of finance to look into ways of addressing your concerns so your names are reinstated,” he said, emphasising that the families of national heroes would not be forgotten.
The governor noted that his administration is prioritising road repairs across the state, with construction efforts ongoing in Aweil East, West, North, and South counties. He also promised the construction of a permanent tomb for Paramount Chief Kuac Kuach, popularly known as Kuac Manyiel of the Cimel section, and pledged to support one of the chief’s spouses to reside nearby.
Governor Mawut encouraged local chiefs to refrain from political involvement and focus instead on fostering peace and stability in their communities.
As his government navigates challenges such as hunger and basic service delivery, Mawut insisted that progress would be driven by tangible action, not political rhetoric. “We will lead by doing things physically, not by rumour-mongering,” he affirmed.
