Malekia FC stuns Yambio Star in dramatic comeback

Africa-Press – South-Sudan. Malekia FC of Torit bounced back from a slim 3-4 defeat to Yambio Star FC to clinch a convincing 3-1 win against the latter in the South Sudan Cup 2021/2022. The scores ensured that Malekia progressed to the next stage of the tournament.

Yambio Star FC now joins other teams from the Western Equatoria State such as Nasery FC from Mundri, and Bentiu Olympic of Bentiu, who can now prepare to go back to the state.

The two Eastern Equatoria boys, Malekia and Jebel Koteen, are through to the next stage. Today, Jebel Koteen FC will take on Terekeka’s Wehida FC.

On Monday evening, Yambio Star head coach was quoted by a media outlet saying his squad was in good shape ahead of a tight encounter against the Torit LFA champions after the team captain arrived late from Yambio on Friday and could not take part in the first game.

The Yambio coach stated that the arrival of his team captain, Abiad Arona, who did not feature in the first leg, was a big boost to the team.

Abiad arrived late from Yambio and could not take part in the first game. He has, however, trained with the rest of the squad and is available for selection. ‘‘Our striker, Emmason Wande, is still injured and won’t take part,” he reportedly said.

“Our focus is now on this game, and we look forward to winning so as to make our people back home happy. “We will make a few changes in the line-up based on the performance from the last game,” he added.

Many Yambio Star fans were left disappointed as they could not believe it was a game of 90 minutes.

Elsewhere, in zone one (Wau), Genanyuon United (Tonj) beat Malual Bai FC (Wonyjok) 4-1 to qualify for the next stage.

Genanyuon United also came from a 1-0 down loss in the first leg, to win against Malual Bai (Wonyjok) after scoring four goals in the second game.

Two goals in the first half made the Tonj boys control the second half of the game which they comfortably won.

The Genanyuon United advanced to the next stage with a 4-2 aggregate thanks to Dhiew Madut and Gony Bai’s first-half goals.

While in zone 3 (Renk), Al-Tahrir FC of Melut were knocked out by Qadiasia FC of Renk after winning 2-0 in the last round of matches and 4-2 in aggregate.
