Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday evening relieved the First Undersecretary of Finance in the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

In a decree broadcast on state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation, Kiir relieved Garang Majak Bol and replaced him with Kuol Daniel Ayulo.

Ayulo previously served in the same position before being relieved.

As usual, no reasons were given for the changes.

Reacting to the changes, Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), said that changes in ministers and undersecretaries at the Ministry of Finance and Planning should be based on effective performance and merit.

“The frequent changes are turning the ministry into a real house of corruption and malpractices,” he charged. “Transparency and accountability are harder to realize in the ministry of finance and planning if this style of regular changes of ministers and undersecretaries continues.”

“Also, corrupted ministers and undersecretaries are not publicly held accountable,” Yakani added.
