Africa-Press – South-Sudan. South Sudan’s Minister of East African Community Affairs, Pieng Deng Kuol, has reaffirmed the country’s dedication to advancing regional integration during his swearing-in ceremony at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) on Tuesday.
Taking the oath before regional lawmakers, Minister Kuol pledged loyalty to the East African Community (EAC) and committed himself to upholding the principles enshrined in the treaty establishing the bloc.
As a former senior official within EALA, he assured the assembly of his cooperation on legislative engagement and reiterated South Sudan’s growing alignment with regional norms.
Minister Kuol informed EALA about the passage of the East African Treaty Bill by the South Sudan National Legislative Assembly on 27 November 2025.
He said the move reflects the will of the South Sudanese people to deepen ties with neighboring states.
“I am happy to inform you that on 27th of November 2025, South Sudan National Legislative Assembly has passed the East African Treaty Bill which affirms the commitment of South Sudan people to the East African shared aspiration,” Kuol said.
“As Minister of East African Affairs, I will exert my utmost effort to coordinate and aid the implementation and execution of East African organs, directives and resolutions. Once again, I reiterate the commitment of South Sudan to the integration agendas of our region.”
Minister Kuol enters the role with an extensive background in security, governance, and administration.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Security and Strategic Studies from the University of Juba, a Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Principles from the University of London, a Diploma in Military Science and Instruction from SPLA Officers’ College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
His public service career spans decades. He served as Inspector General of the South Sudan Police Service (2013–2016), Deputy Chief of Defence Forces (2009–2013), and Director of Operations for the SPLA (2005–2009).
During the Comprehensive Peace Agreement period, he was a key member of Sudan’s Fire Political Commission, the Joint Defence Board, and participated in negotiating SPLA security arrangements.
Beyond military and security leadership, Kuol has been active in supporting economic and agricultural development. He currently serves as Deputy Chairperson of the Agricultural Bank of South Sudan and sits on the board of Dr. John Garang Memorial University, among other institutions.
Minister Kuol’s return to EALA in a ministerial capacity marks another step in South Sudan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation, legislative alignment, and economic integration within the East African Community.
