Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Caucus Sports & Cultural Olympics (CASCO) 2025 has launched in Juba, bringing together over 1,000 young South Sudanese in a week of activities designed to promote tolerance, respect, and national understanding.
On Monday, December 15, the organisation officially announced the launch of a week-long celebration designed to foster unity, tradition, and teamwork among communities in Juba.
Running from December 15th to 21st, the festival seamlessly combines athletic competition, cultural showcases, and community dialogue.
CASCO 2025 features a diverse lineup of events catering to various talents and traditions, including inter-school volleyball and basketball tournaments, a challenging cycling competition, a pool table championship, a cultural fashion show, and traditional community wrestling.
The core mission of CASCO is to foster unity, harmony, and peace while providing a vital platform for discussing ideas that contribute to the country’s development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Monday, CASCO communication officer John Agou underscored the festival’s ambitious goals. “The idea of The Caucus Sports & Cultural Olympics (CASCO) is to use sports as a sustainable mode for unity, harmony, peace, and discussion of many other things that we can use to push our country forward,” Agou stated.
He extended a warm invitation to all attendees: “I want to invite all the participants to play freely, participate freely, contribute to the development of the country’s environment.”
CASCO 2025 promises an exciting week of competition and collaboration, underscoring the vital role of sports and culture in building a stronger, more united society.
Meanwhile, the organizers revealed that its mobilizing the next generation, which it described as landmark event is set to support over 1000 young participants in activities promoting tolerance, respect, and national understanding.
The pinnacle of CASCO is the thrilling spectacle of South Sudanese Traditional Wrestling, where the strength and spirit of our youth will be on full display.
These fierce cultural contests will feature elite representation from three major States—Jonglei, Central Equatoria, and Lakes—drawing 15 dedicated wrestlers from each of the six participating counties (Bor, Twic East, Yirol East, Yirol West, Terekeka, and Awerial).
