Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Governor of Upper Nile State, Jacob Dollar, told residents of Malakal on Christmas Day that his administration will focus on making 2026 a safe year for families to move out of displacement camps and back into their homes.
Governor Dollar spent the holiday visiting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Malakal Protection of Civilians (POC) site and other local camps. During his meetings with community leaders, he spoke about the government’s responsibility to treat every citizen fairly and ensure that safety is felt by everyone across the state.
He encouraged those living in the camps to focus on peace and forgiveness, calling these values the only way to bring permanent stability to Upper Nile.
“The year 2025–2026 is a year of hope,” Governor Dollar said. “The state government decided to celebrate Christmas here with family and friends in the POC to share words of encouragement and unity. As your governor, I am committed to making sure Malakal is 100% secure.”
The Governor promised that the state would not only provide protection but also work on delivering the basic services families need to restart their lives in town. He noted that as 2026 begins, his office will put new measures in place to improve service delivery for all residents.
By spending the holiday inside the camps, the Governor aimed to show that his administration is listening to the concerns of the displaced. His message centered on the idea that for Malakal to truly recover, the government and the people must work together to build a sense of safety and trust.
