The Commissioner of Renk County in Upper Nile State has officially launched the African gum, also known as Gum Arabic, production season this week, aiming to boost output and support the local economy.

Speaking during the launch ceremony in Jelhak Payam, Commissioner Diing Deng Lweth said the initiative is intended to increase the production of strategic crops and strengthen the national economy.

He noted that many farmers and producers in the area rely on Gum Arabic as their primary source of income and described the natural gum as a high-value agricultural product with strong economic returns.

The commissioner commended farmers, producers, and working teams for their efforts, highlighting their role in environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources.

He further emphasized the government’s commitment to organizing harvesting processes and providing technical guidance to ensure producers meet quality standards and achieve higher value addition.

Gum Arabic is widely used in pharmaceuticals, food products, and food additives, making it an important commodity with expanding market opportunities.
