Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The Office of the Press Unit in Jonglei State has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media and in some media outlets claiming that Governor Riek Gai has passed away at a hospital in Nairobi.
In a statement issued to the public, the Governor’s office categorically refuted the claims, describing them as baseless and intended to cause unnecessary panic.
“We categorically refute and discredit the false information currently circulating in certain media outlets alleging that His Excellency Governor Riek Gai has passed away at Nairobi Hospital. This claim is baseless, misleading, and intended to cause unnecessary alarm among the public,” the statement read.
The Press Unit clarified that Governor Riek is alive, in stable condition, and receiving appropriate medical care.
“We hereby clarify that Governor Riek Gai is alive, in stable condition, and receiving appropriate medical care. His health continues to improve, and he is expected to resume his official duties in due course,” the office stated.
Authorities urged members of the public to disregard what they termed unfounded reports and warned against the spread of misinformation.
“The public is strongly advised to disregard these unfounded reports and remain vigilant against propaganda disseminated by unreliable sources,” the statement added.
The Office of the Press Unit reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate and timely information to citizens of Jonglei State and called on media practitioners to verify information before publication to help maintain peace, trust, and stability in the community.
