Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The speaker of the Ethiopian parliament has arrived in the South Sudanese capital Juba to hold talk with President Salva Kiir Mayardit on various issues including security cooperation.
In a statement, the presidency said a delegation head by the speaker of the Ethiopian parliament Tagesse Chaffo arrived in Juba on Tuesday and held talk with President Kiir on security and cross-border trade.
“His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic , received and held a meeting with the Delegation from Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia led by Tagesse Chaffo, Speaker of House of People’s Representatives of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia,” South Sudan presidency said in a statement this evening.
The statement said the delegation includes Omod Ujulu, President of Gambella Region, Ashadli Hassan, President of Benishagul Region, Ambassador Feseha Shawel, Director General for IGAD Countries and Ambassador Nabil Mahdi, Ambassador of Ethiopia to South Sudan.
The statement said the meeting “centred on Security issues in the regions bordering South Sudan and Ethiopia.”
“The delegation also discussed issues pertaining to cattle rustling, child abduction, infrastructure development and border trade in the areas bordering South Sudan and Ethiopia,” it added.
In his remarks to the media after the meeting, Chaffo said, they have “exchanged informations and discussed how to work closely for the common goods of the two Countries”, noting that they “are going to form a joint forum to discuss problems whenever they arise.”
